The present paper is dealing with the background and urgent needs for development of green or sustainable building base on the principles of energy and resource saving and resources as well as preservation of the natural habitat, improvement of quality of life and minimizing the negative impact on urban infrastructure

Have you ever heard about going green? Admit it or not, at one point everyone would have to follow with this green movement. Why it’s so important nowadays? It’s because natural resources on the planet Earth are not infinite, and in one day, we run out of them. So there are so many people who are interested in green building. But what is it? Green building, also called sustainable building, an integrative process that focuses on a relationship between a built environment and a natural environment. The model of green building would be a building that, in its design, construction or maintenance, reduces or eliminates negative impacts, and can create positive impacts, on our climate and natural environment. Sustainable buildings preserve invaluable natural resources. This type of building is able to improve our quality of life. This is the actual purpose of a green building [1]. How we can go green? There are many abilities to going green, such as: Rational use of energy, water and other resources Use of renewable energy, such as solar or wind energy Improve indoor quality of air Pollution and waste reduction measures Enabling of re-use and recycling of materials and other things in use Using non-toxic, ethical and sustainable materials Consideration of the environment and the quality of life of inhabitants in design, construction and operation A design that enables adaptation to a changing environment. You may ask: “How we can measure, how green our building is?” LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Available for actually all building, community and home project types, LEED provides a framework to create healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings. LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement. Most of all LEED certified building are located in USA and Europe, but some of projects have taken place in Russia [2].
