Introduction. Modern nuclear power plant construction represents a complex multifaceted process requiring coordination among various organizations and advanced technologies. In light of global competition and increased demands for safety and sustainability, new approaches to organization and management have become essential. This article explores the use of an ecosystem approach and servitization within this framework using the example of JSC ASÉs project in Egypt.Relevance of the Study.Current nuclear energy projects face significant challenges related to integrating innovative methodologies and ensuring compliance with both national and international regulations. Effective collaboration between contractors like Rossém Trust, NIKIMT, and Titan-2 plays a crucial role in enhancing overall project performance while maintaining high levels of safety and reliability. Objective and Tasks. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the application of an ecosystem approach and servitization in NPP construction by examining JSC ASÉ’s experiences. To achieve these goals, the following tasks were established:- Analyze the interplay between general contractor JSC ASÉ and specialized subcontractor companies.- Evaluate how these interactions influence the effectiveness and quality of NPP construction processes.- Identify key advantages provided by implementing an ecosystem-based methodology and servitization strategy.- Provide examples illustrating successful implementations of these concepts in real-world scenarios.Theoretical Background.Concept of Ecosystem Approach. An ecosystem approach views NPP construction as a complex system consisting of interconnected elements—general contractors, subcontractors, equipment suppliers, regulators, and stakeholders. Success depends heavily on effective communication, knowledge exchange, goal alignment, and efficient decision-making across all participants.JSC ASÉ serves as the main integrator, responsible for coordinating activities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, meeting deadlines, and managing budgets.Definition of Servitization.Servitization refers to expanding traditional product offerings through additional services such as consulting, training, maintenance support, and technical assistance. In the context of NPP construction, servitization enhances value creation by offering customized solutions tailored to client needs.Specialized subcontractors contribute unique competencies and expertise:- «Rossém Trust»: Consultation on construction management, quality control systems, personnel training.- «NIKIMT»: Development of engineering documentation, expert evaluations, consultation regarding equipment safety and reliability.- «Titan-2»: Installation, commissioning, maintenance, repair, and operational staff training. These partnerships provide comprehensive service packages extending beyond basic construction work.Main Principles of Ecosystem Approach and Servitization.Practical Implementation of Ecosystem Approach. In practice, applying an ecosystem approach involves creating an information-sharing platform where all parties collaborate effectively. Key aspects include:- Coordinated efforts between general contractors and specialized firms.- Continuous monitoring of construction sites.- Timely dissemination of relevant data and problem-solving mechanisms. For instance, JSC ASÉ successfully implemented an ecosystem-based model during its Egyptian project, showcasing synergistic cooperation between major players.Advantages of Servitization.Integrating servitization into NPP construction offers several benefits:- Enhanced trust and satisfaction among clients due to comprehensive service provision.- Improved economic viability and competitive positioning for subcontractors.- Higher-quality outputs resulting from extended after-sales services and regular diagnostics.- Reinforced brand image globally.By incorporating supplementary services, companies can optimize costs, minimize losses, and increase profitability.Safety and Sustainability Aspects.Ensuring safety and minimizing environmental impact remain critical components of NPP construction. Collaborative measures involving partners like Rossém Trust, NIKIMT, and Titan-2 address these concerns comprehensively:Partner Audits for Safety Culture.Regular partner audits conducted by JSC ASÉ focus on identifying potential hazards and improving workplace safety culture. These initiatives aim at reducing accidents and incidents while adhering strictly to regulatory guidelines.Examples of services offered by subcontractors:- Conducting safety audits and hazard identification exercises.- Developing and implementing occupational health and safety programs.- Training employees on safety practices.- Organizing peer reviews focused on safety culture enhancement.Environmental Initiatives.Environmental protection also forms part of sustainable NPP construction strategies. Efforts involve:- Implementing eco-friendly waste disposal methods.- Using filtration systems to prevent water contamination.- Reducing thermal pollution in bodies of water (as demonstrated in Hungarys Paksh II project).- Constructing environmentally friendly buildings aligned with modern green building standards.Such actions demonstrate commitment towards ecological responsibility and regional sustainability.Conclusion.Applying an ecosystem approach combined with servitization provides strategic opportunities for enhancing efficiency, safety, and competitiveness in NPP construction. By leveraging collaborative models and introducing expanded service portfolios, companies like JSC ASÉ ensure higher project success rates and greater customer satisfaction. Future research could explore further optimization possibilities within this framework.
