USE OF TECHNOLOGIES IN TEACHING

FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY

 

Abstract: this article discusses the features of the use of digital technologies in education. A cross-sectional and comparative analysis of the impact of technology on the development of educational methodologies has been carried out. Recommendations are given for the introduction of technologies in the industry.

The job of foreign language teachers is to teach students a completely new language, including subtle grammar rules and cultural norms. There is now an opportunity for foreign language learners to incorporate technology into their learning strategies. How can this be done? Here are some ways.

  1. Make learning visible. Using technology to connect with foreign lands and display how the natives of that country live allows students to see and experience the language they are learning in interactive and real life.
  2. Differentiation. Technology tools give teachers additional resources to reach students with different abilities and needs.
  3. Involvement of students. This is definitely a way to get students involved due to its interactive nature.
  4. Application of language. This gives learners numerous opportunities to use the language with others to be able to apply the language.

What are the benefits of using technology in teaching a foreign language?

  1. Remote access to language education technology makes it possible to reach an audience around the world. This allows teachers to be hired locally and students can access courses taught by native speakers to ensure immersion. Technology has also opened doors to access endless and limitless resources, regardless of student location, language fluency, or economic status.
  2. Blended Language Courses Blended learning means a combination of online learning and in-person learning. In this setting, the student takes online courses and the teacher supplements them with classroom teaching that is more focused on the actual needs of the students, rather than just the rules that can already be discussed in the online course.
  3. Interactive and collaborative learning, the best way to learn something is through an interactive learning environment built with technology tools and resources. The same is true for language learning, the application of the language must be present, and this is in order for the learning process to be better, to make it more interactive and fun.

Collaborative tools are also a great way to learn a language and develop collaboration skills.

  1. Real world problem solving made possible

Language learning apps are updated regularly and even include current events and news as a way to learn a new language. This allows students to learn in the real world with realistic scenarios in a virtual learning environment.

Traditional education is no longer as effective. Teachers need more than ever to motivate their students by presenting something in the learning environment. Technology helps the teacher to complement traditional methods and improve the learning process.

  1. Easy to manage and monitor student progress

Course management, student progress tracking, and other administrative tasks are now easier with the advent of online educational platforms that provide many features tailored to the needs of educational centers.

Below are 4 useful technical tools that you can use to teach a foreign language.

  1. Music and video. Audio listening exercises can be helpful to test what students can identify on their own. The combination of pictures, intonation, and gestures gives students contextual cues that can help them better understand the language.
  2. Educational websites. Educational websites like Quizlet and FluentU can help you improve your learning experience by offering meaningful and engaging grammar and current events activities, respectively.
  3. Collaboration tools. Tools such as Facebook, Classting, Google Classes can help students use the language they are learning and also participate in collaborative activities.
  4. Apps for smartphones and tablets Numerous smartphone and tablet apps, such as Duolingo, FluentU and Memrise, provide learners with an interactive and fun way to learn a language using phones and tablets.

Technology has penetrated every aspect of our lives and we are not immune to how we learn new concepts. This has completely expanded the possibilities of language learning for both teachers and students.
