EFFECTS OF FRACTURE PARAMETERS ON FRACTURED WELL PRODUCTIVITY *

In this paper analysis the productivity sensitivity of fractured wells, considering the relationships of different parameters, by using MATLAB program compares how much they effect on well productivity. Based on the analysis, better decisions can be made during the design or producing of a fractured well.

Since 1949 Haliburton successfully did the first commercial fracturing job in Oklahoma, fracturing became more and more popular all over the world. As of 2010, it was estimated that 60% of all new oil and gas wells worldwide were being hydraulically fractured. As of 2012, 2.5 million hydraulic fracturing jobs have been performed on oil and gas wells worldwide, more than one million of them in the United States. [1] A hydraulic fracture is formed by pumping the fracturing fluid into the wellbore at a rate sufficient to increase pressure downhole to exceed that of the fracture gradient (pressure gradient) of the rock. [2] The created fracture acts like high permeability access for gas and oil from the low permeability matrix to the wellbore, thus significantly increasing the productivity and efficiency of the reservoir. To prevent close of fracture after stopping the injection of fracturing fluid, operators always inject proppants into the fracture. But proppants within fractures are also creating flow resistance, which is related with the fracture conductivity [3]. Fracture length is another important factor of a fractured well, which directly effects the drainage area of the well[4]. Guo-Schechter[5] presented a fractured well productivity index calculation equation, which considers the effects of fracture skin factor and fracture conductivity. By comparing the productivity index after hydraulic fracture and before fracture, we can get the ratio of productivity improvement, and evaluate the hydraulic fracturing job under different reservoir properties and fracture parameters.
