The family library of the artist V.V. Vereshchagin *
Аннотация:
The article analyses the manor library collection of the Vereshchagins, the family of the painter V.V. Vereshchagin.The founder of the library is the painter's great-grandfather, A. P. Bashmakov who began to collect books in the late 18 century. The library underdiscussion is a collection of books, mainly in French, written in mid-18 - early 19th century. The library combines the typical features of manor libraries of the period with the individual features, reflecting the tastes and likes of the owners.

In the history of the country's culture an important role belonged to the manor libraries. In Russia libraries began to be created in the second half of the 13th century with the advent of the understanding of the book as a means of shaping the human personality. The collection of book collections allowed their owners to realize their cognitive interests, helped them in the formation of political, philosophical, and aesthetic views. Home libraries were an integral part of Russian culture. Studying the history of libraries, their composition, helps to understand the noble way of life, helps to recreate the cultural atmosphere of past centuries. The family library of the famous artist V.V. Vereshchagin has more than 220 books, 220 of which take place in the memorial museum of V.V. Vereshchagin and in the funds of the Cherepovets Museum Association. Several books that are not valuable or damaged for various reasons are in the library of the museum association. Near the village of Lubets was the village Pertovka, in which was the family estate of the Vereshchagins. In the 40s of the last century the estate was flooded by the Rybinsk Reservoir, the family of Kuzma Nikolayevich Vereshchagin, the artist's nephew, handed over to Cherepovets Museum of Local History in 1940 a number of memorial things and an old manor library [2, p. 351]. The basis of the library of noblemen Bashmakov-Vereshchagin is literature in French. There are several books in German, Latin and Russian. All books, with some exceptions, were published in the second half of the 18th century and the first third of the 19th century in France, Germany, Switzerland, England, as well as the Netherlands and Russia. Out of works of fiction, poetry is represented by the seventeenth-century classics of Boileau, Corneille, Racine. There are some works in the verses of the popular Florian in the eighteenth century, which, with his fables, surpassed the work of La Fontaine, and the poem “Numa Pompilius”, translated by Kheraskov, he addresses the relevance of politics [3, p. 115]. Among the prose works there are the books of the famous Renaissance writers Michel Montaigne (“Experiments”) and Francois Rabelais (the first volume of “Gargantua and Pantagruel”).
