MAGTYMGULY - THE POET-EDUCATOR
Abstract: the creative world of Magtymguly Pyragy is rich and varied. Themes such as patriotism, education, love, respect for parents, unity, decency, health, and good behavior have taken significant place in the works’ of the great poet Magtymguly Pyragy. Magtymguly Pyragy believes that one of the best qualities of a person is to praise the elders.
In general, the poet’s poems in all areas are an inspiration and spiritual treasure for all people.

As a great mentor and a school of education for his people, Magtymguly has occupied a special place in Turkmen history. The poet knew well the material and spiritual state of his people. The great poet called his compatriots for happy life and equipment with well education. The great poet could masterfully use methods of poetry to create wonderful verses. His wise views and keen phrases approach the hearts of readers immediately and reveal the spirit of life skillfully. He expands the meaning of the conception “a pure moral should always be a companion of the Turkmen”.
Paying a special attention to the moral development of the individual the poet calls for moral and spiritual development of people so that they express proper respect for each other. The poet highlighted well and clearly the principles of perfect moral and soul of any individual of any trade or profession in his high didactic and educative works.
Magtymguly underlines with strong hope that people should begin everything with themselves in their personal relations, and their main support should be their people and unity. The view, which is set forward by Magtymguly for all-round education of every individual, comprises the necessity of education of generations who have a proper vision. He underlines that improvement of life and state can be realized by wise and proper actions of people. These valued admonishments of Magtymguly serve a great school of education for Turkmens. This principle is a commitment for every teacher. His poems talk about topics like patriotism, pureness, courage and humaneness. These are the main problems of the poet is present and future. Another problem is humans being educated and giving intellectual and working education to the youth. For that reason, his poems include words about a teacher, book, studying and schooling.
In his dialogue with Zunuby Magtymguly says: Teacher, tell us about it- These words reflect his respect to his teacher and his will to study. Magtymguly’s works have views about intellectual development, worldview, thinking abilities, habits and talents. Therefore, he advises about giving intellectual education from the early years.
You went to school at seven,
By reading learnt about lifestyle. [1, pg 76]
He also says that intellectual education must be given along with working, education.
Man will show who he is in his deeds,
You will know him when he fights and speaks. [1, pg 92]
Magtymguly had criticized lazy people the advices learning specialties from childhood.
He wouldn’t like to work,
If he hasn’t suffered in his youth. [1, pg 137]
Surely, in the development of Magtymguly’s views to pedagogics in a great role is given to his father Azady. It can be seen in his works “Shirgazi”, “Willing to be equal to them”, “You will want to stay”, “Head is needed”, “Known”.
In copy-books a book I saw,
“Kysasyl-enbiya” named adherents. [2, pg 39]
The great and boundless love of the poet for his people and land makes him great. As a historical personality, Magtymguly is a great thinker, who has left sacred sayings, a great school, and a clear guiding principle which will ever live in the spirit and hearts of his succeeding generations. Magtymguly firmly believed that one day his dream of an independent Turkmen state for which he had devoted his whole life, would be built. Expressing the hearts of his people, the poet built a sovereign independent state and today his dream has come true in the light of our Turkmen state and it has turned into a land of happiness. The Turkmen people, who have gained a great fame in history, lay a foundation of their every enterprise with honesty and build life principles on its basis and follow advice of their ancestors. They adhered to principles of honesty as a guideline in their life. Thus, the living with honour was a sacred path in the hearts of our ancestors and took a permanent place in their life. It had entered their spirit. They put honesty at the source of happy life and tried to gain fame and glory with honest labour. Our ancestors also concerned continuation of this path for all of our generations.
Honesty, patience, godliness, remained in the minds of people as national ethnical tradition. This character has become a central idea in the works of outstanding scholars, classic poets. One can find such admonishments in the works of Mahmud Zamakhshary, Nurmuhammet Andalyp, Yunus Emre and other Turkmen poets.
Through his valuable verses Magtymguly Pyragy is the great thinker and poet who had disseminated dreams of our people of unity, consolidation, freedom and peace of our fatherland Through the works of Magtymguly Pyragy we have inherited admonishments and traditions to follow the Turkmen path firmly and sacred. His teaching principles have made a permanent place in our minds and have spread all over the world. The issue of honest life, which makes due impact on the dignity and honour of people, stands out in all of his works. Such case is more visible in the work of the great Turkmen poet Magtymguly.
At present, it is important for every parent to attach a great significance for education of generations, keep them from the evil, avidness, and differentiate bad from good, wrong from right. It is even more important for them to educate them with their deeds and actions not by their words. It is an essential lesson in education.
In general, honesty was looked upon as the main issue in the history of education. It always attracted the attention of our great personalities and they also paid due attention to it in their works and activities. Education of generations should be based upon honesty and pure moral. Our common goal is to save honesty of Turkmens and ensure its continuation as our national value. In this endeavor the verses of Magtymguly Pyragy which call for honesty and pure moral, have a great significance.
